American Chopper: Christmas Sled

In this episode of American Chopper, Orange County Choppers build a sled to attach to last years Reindeer Bike. OCC will use it to deliver gifts to needy families in their Montgomery, New York. This was am especially funny and heart felt episode with a lot of Mikey time.

Last year, Rick Petco, Mikee, Sr., and Mike Campo build an awesome Reindeer Chopper and Paul Sr. was so happy with the outcome that he decided to use the same team on the sled to attach to that bike. So the four of them meet over breakfast to decide the plan and get into the Christmas spirit. For Paul Sr., this is his favorite time of year and really looks forward to it. It shows because he throws less temper tantrums in this show. The team decides to work in the steel shop since they will be alone and most of what they need is in there anyway. Problem is, it is really cold in there. Unbothered, the boys go online to research different shapes and styles of sleds. While they print out some options, Paul Sr. went to pick up the Reindeer bike from the Orange County Choppers showroom.

Paul Sr. arrives back at the sop and a HO HO HO Open the door! rings out. Mikee opens it up and tells Sr. to hurry because he’s freezing his chestnuts off. The team has decided on a simple classic look and Sr. approves. Last year, Sr. dressed as Santa and Mikee his little elf. Mikee makes it clear that this time he doesn’t want to dress up. Ignored, the guys start bending handrails. Mike Campo is doing most of the metal work with Rick and Mikey is there the look on and learn. Mikee actually cut out the side panels of the sleigh and the frame is al done.

The next day, they start putting the frame together. It would seem this stuff was rehearsed. Mikee and Sr. go to grind the sleigh walls but Mikee has to change out the disc first. He is struggling because it is on really tight. Of course, Sr. thinks Mikee is just being useless and tries himself. He can’t get it either. It is too funny to watch these OCC guys banter and yell at each other. Anyway, the team gets a visit from some kids from the Make A Wish Foundation. Sr. is actually really good with kids and you can tell that this visit really gets them all in the Christmas sprit.

The first snowfall of the season happens the next day and Campo who is sporting a Mohawk bends some steel. Mikee is so ready for the season, he says “if I had anymore Christmas spirit in me, I’d be crapping out jingle bells.” So poetic. The guys from the other shop came over that afternoon to check out the progress. Paulie and Vinnie and put in their two cents. Friday rolls around and they really have to finish up. They use the wheels meant for the welder for the sled along with the suspension and rear axle. After shortening the axle a bit they add a support piece and weld it all together then attach to the sled.

Sr., Paulie, and Mikey from Orange County Choppers go to visit Paul Sr.’s mom with a Christmas tree that Mikee picked out. He was also in charge of decorating the tree but bout five hundred feet of lights and one strand of bells to don the tree with. As you probably guessed he got harassed by the others. She really seemed to enjoy the visit and wasn’t that nice of them to do visit. Back to work. Monday arrives and they finish the hitch and Mikee bends some steel to add to the sled for a lantern. Now the whole thing gets backed into the trailer and over to Nubs Grafix for it’s custom paint job. He has free reign, so in the meantime, Mikee and Sr. head over to Jim Smith’s Chevrolet dealership for a push, pull or tow event. They decide to tow a total nightmare of a car into the dealership behind Sr.’s Hummer. This is an accident waiting to happen as Mikee and passenger sway all over the road with no windshield and the driver side door swinging open while moving. They make it and Mikee is supposed to “do all the talking” and get himself a new truck. So Jim Smith comes back with an offer. How bout this, $45 for the trade in and $45000 for the truck. Mikee and Sr. step away and Sr. gives Mikee some advise. He says to write down that they want $4500 for the wreck outside and that he wants to pay $35000 for the truck. We all know that we would be laughed at in this situation, but it was accepted. The funny part was Mikee. He tossed the pad of paper with the counter offer over the desk and Sr. stars busting up. You can’t help but crack up with him, but when Jim says he’ll take the offer, Sr. loses it.

Nub of Nub Grafix paints a red basecoat them masks out some trees and does a lot of detail work with and airbrush. He moves on to the front and paints a Santa with a wrench. He does really nice work and it looks great with the green velour tufted interior.

Paulie’s role in this Christmas celebration is to buy the gifts for the needy families while the Montgomery Police Department handle the food and clothes. So Paulie and his girlfriend, Whitney go to Toys R Us and buy about seven baskets full of toys for these kids. In the mean time, Nubs drops off the sled and the family is there to see it.

On Friday, everyone at OCC gets to wrap all the gifts and Mikee is really bad at it. Paulie is a little better at it and it is now time for Santa. Sr. has relinquished the Santa reins to Mikey and since Paulie did the least work on the bike, he is the elf this year. Sr. drives the chopper pulling Mikee and Paulie in the sled and they deliver all the gifts to all the families. The best part is seeing the children and their reactions to presents and the bike and sled. It is really obvious that this made Sr. really happy and feel good about giving back to his community. The Montgomery Police Department went with the Orange County Choppers (OCC) crew to deliver the clothes and food to the families.

This is the second year now that the Teutul's have had a Christmas episode. Last year they donated a ton of toys to the children who lost their moms or dads in the 9/11 attacks. This year they recognized several families who did not have the means to give at Christmas. Sr. may yell and scream but deep down he is a really a big softy.
